How to Pair Margaritas with Your Favorite Meals

A guide to matching our signature margaritas with the perfect spicy or savory Mexican dishes.

How to Pair Margaritas with Your Favorite Meals at La Sierra Mexican Restaurant in Forest Grove

A margarita is great on its own, but the right one next to the right plate is something more. The acid of the lime cuts through rich food, the tequila stands up to spice, and a little salt brings out flavors you might miss otherwise. At La Sierra in Forest Grove we pour a full margarita menu, and these are the pairings our bartenders and kitchen recommend most.

House Margarita with the La Sierra Burrito

The House Margarita is clean, bright and balanced, which makes it the perfect partner for the loaded La Sierra Burrito. The burrito is rich with carne asada, cheese, guacamole and sour cream, and the lime in the margarita cuts through all of it so each bite stays fresh. This is the no thinking, all pleasure pairing. See both on our menu and drinks pages.

    Cadillac Margarita with Sizzling Fajitas

The Cadillac Margarita uses top shelf tequila and a float of Grand Marnier, so it has a richer, smoother finish. That richness stands up to the smoky char of the Steak Fajitas or the La Sierra Fajitas. The tequila echoes the grilled meat, and the citrus brightens the peppers and onions. If you are ordering fajitas, this is the upgrade.

Mangonada with Camarones A La Diabla

The Mangonada is sweet mango and tangy lime with chamoy and Tajin, and it is made for spicy food. The sweet and sour cools the heat of the Camarones A La Diabla, and the Tajin rim echoes the Mexican seasoning in the dish. It is a bold pairing that works because both sides are bold. Try it and you will see why it is one of our most ordered drinks.

    Jalapeno Margarita with Carne Asada

If you like heat on heat, the Jalapeno Margarita with muddled jalapeno is a natural match for the Carne Asada. The grilled top sirloin has sauteed onions and bell peppers, and the jalapeno in the glass echoes the grill flavors while adding a slow burn. Keep the guacamole and pico de gallo close to cool things down between sips.

    Make It a Flight

If you cannot choose, order the LS Rita Flight, which brings strawberry, mango and classic lime margaritas with chamoy and Tajin rims. It lets you taste three and find your own pairing. Happy hour from 2 PM to 5 PM makes experimenting easy with $7 margaritas. Order online for pickup, or sit in the cantina and let your bartender guide you.

The best pairing is always the one you enjoy most, but these are a great place to start. Come hungry, come thirsty, and let us pour you something that makes the food sing.
